Be prepared to get wet if you want to catch an image of the Cathedral Rocks behind the falls of Red Rock Crossing nowadays. While 20 years ago (when I first photographed this area) one could catch a similar scene from the northern bank of the stream, the trees have grown so much that in order to see the Cathedral Rocks you literally have to wade well out into the water. In this case, I was up to my hips at this point composing this image. As I visualized this image, I greatly desired smooth water (from a long exposure). Not having a neutral density filter, my only other choice was to stop waaaayyyy down and hope for the best. Stacking on a polarizer, a two-stop split density neutral density filter, and shooting at f/16, I was able to achieve 1/4 second, which gave the desired motion blur to the water.
