Winter Evening, Grand Canyon

After work one quite evening, I trotted up to the South Rim of the Canyon to watch sunset. What a treat awaited me, as untracked snow from a previous storm blanketed much of the area. I was able to capture quite a few beautiful images, but none with the 'depth' of this one. I see this image as a story which is visually broken into two parts: the warm canyon to the left; the ominous storm to the upper right. The barren tree is the partition which separates these distinct 'stories'...brought into perspective by a fresh foreground.

Wow! Great shot. Love the composition and lighting. I sure wish I could just "trot" up to the Grand Canyon after work!!

I love the dead tree as a fragile counterpoint to the vastness of the canyon beyond. That counterpoint is supported well with the sense of brittle cold and elegant light.
