Icicle - Navajo Loop

Walking the Navajo Loop trail this morning was more of a backcountry experience than I have had in a long time. I was the only one there. The silence was astounding. The canyon…pristine and sparkly. A few birds chirping in the background. I was in Heaven. On the way to Wall Street I passed this delicate icicle hanging nearly to the ground from a small tree. Lying on my stomach in the snow to get the right perspective, I used my wide angle adapter to accent the size of the icicle in relation to the surroundings. I was probably only 12” from the icicle, and had to stop down to F8 to hold everything in focus. Knowing I would be back past this location after I shot Wall Street, I was looking forward to the challenge of shooting this again on my back. But when I returned not more than an hour later – it was gone. How fleeting and fragile nature can be…

I love the long line of the icicle and how sharply it is focused. Your play with angle and line here make the image come to life.
