M 55 is a globular cluster that is only slightly smaller
and dimmer than the far-more-famous M 13. M 55, however, is
located far in the southern sky from mid-northern latitudes, in
the constellation Sagittarius, and so is more difficult to
observe (and therefore more neglected than it deserves). M 55 is only
20,000 light years from earth, and is about 100 light years in
diameter.
