The lychgate into the churchyard at St. Edward's in Hawling; lych is derived from the Old English word 'lic' which means corpse, so a lychgate is the gate through which a corpse is brought on its last journey before being interred in the graveyard. Some lychgates are elaborate affairs, others are simple and plain - St. Edward's sort of falls between the two I think.
Not sure about the angle or composition of this shot - I was out scouting for gates at the weekend but it was so blinkin' cold I grabbed this shot without too much heed of what it looked like....opinions??
