A Young Cottonmouth Water Moccasin (1412)

After another great swamp walk on February 22, 2013, I'm leaving the trailhead area where we parked our cars,
driving down the dirt road and Mike Owen, the Fakahatchee Biologist who led the swamp walk is pulled over and he and two others are crouched down looking at...a snake!
Well, another photo op! Another naturalist that was there said this was a young Cottonmouth Water Moccasin.
One of the characteristics of this species is that they cannot control their venom when they bite and even this young snake could do some serious harm.
He was with someone once who was bitten by this type of young snake in their finger and luckily by rushing to the hospital doctors were able to save the person's finger.
Therefore, I did not get too close...I cropped these in Photoshop to get closer".
