Madam appears to be missing her prow. She has the forward thrust of a beauty carved to grace a sailing ship.
I love everything about this shot: the rich apricot wall, the long, narrow canvas and especially the perfect balance. Like the fulcrum of a lever the mermaid's position and mass hold the longer length to the left of the composition in equilibrium with the shorter length on the right.
