After reading an article in the "Arizona Daily Star" by Joe Burchell on 26 March 2005 about some historic murals being removed from the walls of the now Chase Bank (formerly Valley National Bank), I decided to visit the bank. While I was there, bank officials were bringing out the stored murals that had been removed from the walls and clearly had plans to put the murals back up on the walls as soon as possible. The newspaper article had definitely had an impact.
This beautiful bank building was built in 1929 and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Part of this recognition apparently came from having these murals on the wall as they depict westward expansion and early life in Tucson.
