The first thing we noticed upon landing at Tasiilaq was all the sled dogs near the helipad. Many of these are Greenland dogs – a large husky-type breed – that are used as working dogs on polar bear and seal hunting expeditions. I was told that the wooden boat on the left of this picture used to ferry passengers from Kulusuk airport in the summer – until it caught fire and was abandoned. Now there is only the helicopter service.
