Mono Lake: Primordial Nature

On first visits, people use terms like, 'other worldy' and 'moonscape' to describe Mono's landscape. Is it any wonder?

May 2014: When I shot Mono Lake in the past ('06 &'07) it was mostly at sunrise. This most recent trip I shot at sunset and after. Sadly the water level is very low in this year (2014) of severe drought in California, so many of the tufas are exposed far more than in the past and visitors are walking and climbing all over them. Which explains why some images have a great deal of water and others do not.

forty years ago it was somewhat different, more water but the same other worldly look. There was a small airport for light planes but no facilities for much of anything. I'm not even sure there was a road that got one all the way to the lake. For the air, then, it was almost a perfect circle surrounded by strange rocks and plant formations. Well worth the trip then and now.
