The Rule of Thirds - Why use it?

The theory is that if you place points of interest at the intersections or along the lines then your image will be more balanced. Studies have shown that when viewing images, people’s eyes usually go to one of the intersection points rather than to the centre of the shot. No need to get out a measuring tape though - think of this rule as merely a guide to help you spread out the elements in your picture rather than having everything bunched together.
