Jupiter, Ganymede and Io, 20th May 2016

Loftus, NSW

Great viewing of Jupiter on 20th May - Io was disappearing behind the planet, while Ganymede's big shadow crossed Jupiter's northern hemisphere. Ganymede is moving off to the right, and the bright spot on Ganymede's lower right (I'm pretty confident, it's on multiple frames) is the region dominated by the bright rayed crater Osiris. Some detail is showing in the Red Spot too.

Each image is a stack of 2300 frames, 200mm f/5 Newtonian at f/30, ASI185MC camera, stacked and processed in Firecapture, PIPP, Registax and Photoshop. R,G and B channels stacked separately and recombined. full exif

other sizes: small medium large original auto
