A supernova was discovered on 11th September 2014 in the pretty spiral NGC1566 in Dorado, 40 million light-years away. It was still going strong at 15th magnitude on October 30th, when this image was taken. ASASSN-14ha is a Type II supernova, so is the collapse and explosion of a massive star.
