The Trifid Nebula is an interesting mix of blue reflection and red emission nebulae, and distinctive with the dark dust divisions across the red emission part. It's about 5200 light years distant. The young open cluster M21 is to the lower right. It's just 4.6 million years old, and a little closer than the Trifid at 4250 light years away.
