Oldest Mother Goddess figurine, from Catalhoyuk, 6th C. BC

From Catal Hoyuk, this fertility figure (about 7,000 yrs old with 2 leopards at her
side (and some say, giving birth here), is the most well-known figure of its type. Goddess
of Beasts, she developed later into Artemis.

This carving in baked clay was unearthed by archeologist James Mellaart in 1961.

Excellent ongoing-excavations site.
Interesting article by Alvino.
See another version from Catal Huyuk in a photo by Lillian Bennett.

Dear Sir:

The American Urological Association displays each year at its annual meeting an exhibit on a facet of medicine of educational interest to urologic surgeons.

The theme of this year’s historical exhibit is “Sexuality: Perception and Performance.” As curator charged with the creation of this exhibit, I am searching for images to be shown. One of the images we are looking for is attached; I understand it is copyrighted to you. I am writing to obtain permission to use the image from your collection. If at all possible, we would like to obtain a digital version of at least 300 dpi. Also, please let us know how we should credit you for use of this image, if you allow us to do so.

This year’s exhibit will be shown May 20 to 25, 2006 in Atlanta, Georgia and subsequently for an additional six months at our headquarters in Baltimore, Maryland.
