One of the most beautiful, and the largest lake in the Canadian Rockies, it is 24 kms long. It was dammed 3 times in the 20th century, to provide hydro-electric power for nearby Banff. The last time, in 1941, the level of the lake rose by 30 metres and submerged the village of Minnewanka Landing, which is now popular place for scuba diving.
