WINNER : TRAVEL/AUSTRIA/SEEFELD 2014 GALLERY
The Church of St. Oswald is located in the centre of Seefeld. First recorded in 1263, the church later became a place of pilgrimage after the "Miracle of the Host".
In 1384 Oswald Milser, a local knight and guardian of a nearby castle, demanded the priest's larger portion of wafer during a communion service. The priest did not dare refuse him, but as soon as the wafer touched Oswald's lips he began to sink into the stone floor. The frightened knight tried to hold onto the altar but the stone there started to melt under his hands as well. The priest quickly removed the wafer from the knight's lips and the stone became firm again. However the wafer began to run with blood.
The high altar contains a vessel holding the relic of the miraculous host wafer.
