The old church in Olden on the Nordfjord.
It is not the first church on this beautiful site. A stave church, built around 1300, was demolished in 1746 and replaced by a timber church which stood for only eleven years before being destroyed by a gale in 1757.
The present sturdy cross-shaped church was built in 1759. It is one of the very few cruciform churches in western Norway. Buildings of this shape resist strong winds. Since a new church half a mile away was built in 1934, it is now not in regular use, although still open to the public.
