The old Posthof building dates back to the year 1593 and it was Bacharach's post office from 1724 until 1987. Nowadays the Posthof is used as a museum and also as the tourist information office. In the 18th & 19th centuries it was also a famous inn whose guests included the Czar of Russia, the Emperor of Austria and Victor Hugo, amongst other notable people of that era.
