Half Chaps

I'm not really sure if this is what Nikki meant by "image by association" but here goes anyway.

These are my suede half chaps! Yes folks I used to have an interest in riding horses! Nine years ago a dear friend of mine said "I dare you to come riding with me!" And so once a week we used to go. I progressed well and moved on to a serious riding school and learnt dressage, a little jumping and cross country. The ultimate ride was to take out Mango a 16h chestnut gelding that was more than a handful. He HAD to be in front no matter what! Our favourite hack was going right at a point along the lane which lead us to the two mile gallop instead of left along the track to return home. From that point it was like winding a spring up, with each step there was more bounce up to the point Mango would be cantering on the spot! Finally we would reach the point where we could see far enough to make sure it was safe enough to let the horses go, they didn't need any encouragement! To go from an excited walking pace to an immediate gallop is indescribable and being the lead horse is even better! (no flying muck in your face!)

What memories these chaps bring back! Maybe I'll do it again one day! Oh and BTW Nikki they still have some rather interesting smells attached to then too!!

The theory of wanting to learn to ride I had since I was eight. The actual practice was something entirely different. Haven't been on a horse of thirty years. :) Great shot, love the color contrasts.

What a great story! I'm not sure if I want to know in too much depth what those "interesting smells" are, though!! Great shot, Ian.
Me and horses are OK together, but it is a very scary (and exciting) experience when they suddenly take off!

Nice photo and story. I've done no such riding. Sounds exciting.

I'll repeat my comment from yesterday - no need here for the 10D :-)
