School picnic maybe? - 1920s

Most likely Warsaw

This photo shows a group of girls of approximately the same age seated around a table set with food and drinks in a park (possibly the schoolyard) and a group of adults seated and standing in the background, suggesting that it was taken at a school outing of some kind. The woman seated third from the right (wearing a patterned dress) is evidently the same person standing on the far left in the classroom photo above. It may be the principal who my mother described in one of her essays: “The school principal was a tall, slender distinguished-looking ‘old maid’ with a constant saccharine smile on her face, very rigid and devout. The rumors circulating about her told of a tragic love affair in her youth that made her what she was, strict and unyielding.”
