Woonona Beach Rock Pool, NSW view map

Now for something a little different, though it wasn't intended to be.

While I was having breakfast at Bulli Beach Cafe (which is at the far end of the beach to my left, out of frame) a few weeks ago, I saw a bathing pavilion down here. I thought that it would make an interesting subject when lit by the golden light of sunrise.

Except of course for the damn near perpetual cloud that hangs over the horizon (seen here), which meant that 20 minutes after sunrise there was STILL bupkis in the way of golden light hitting the building.

The sun finally did pop out from behind the clouds just as I was heading back toward the car, which gave me the opportunity to shoot a couple of golden shots of the rock pool at least. But then... I've been doing golden shots for most of the postings over summer.

Instead, I decided to go to one of the backup shots that I took while having an ND8 neutral density filter on, with the intention of smearing the breaking waves and the water run off on the rock pool wall. (In reality I think that the 3 stop reduction of the ND8 was sufficient but not ideal here; if I had my time over I may have gone for something more.)

Still, it has the kind of flavour that I was going for, and was able to use the accursed clouds to anchor the near end of the fence.

I love the results. Nice that you decided to get the ND filter out. ;) V
