160107_112756_0015 The Rippled Roof (Thu 07 Jan 16)

Pyrmont, NSW

I have enough home maintenance problems. I don't need one like this.

As mentioned in Tuesday's PAD we had a pretty torrential few days of rain. By Thursday it had started to clear.

This is the roof of a building that sits over the driveway leading out of The Star Casino. Now I cannot imagine that this is by design but when it rains heavily, the roof fills with water as we see here. It was deep enough to allow the breeze to gain some purchase and cause an ongoing pattern of ripples.

Maybe it IS by design and the water is used as a supplementary water supply... maybe. It's probably safe to drink if you needed to but I'm not sure that I'd want to have a long, deep draught of whatever it picks up from the crud that's deposited on the roof during the dry spells.

It may also cut the summer energy bills since the water would be an effective sink for the heat of the day. But if the roof ever gives way under the water's weight, gods help you.

On the other hand if it isn't used for something... why on earth not have drainage to clear it?

Cool patterns. Not a great building design.

Well the ripples and light certainly are very pretty. I like the composition with the windows in the background. V
