This is not at all the photo that I had long planned for today. I had planned a shot which required a certain degree of athleticism on my part, at least to the extent that I had prior to last Saturday night. True, my leg has healed extensively since then but, and this is a big but, I'm still walking like my day job involves wearing a parrot on my shoulder and saying "Aaaar, me hearties" a lot. And I am not yet back up to doing that shot. So it will wait.
It is of course the obligatory New Year's sunrise, symbol of hope, rebirth, renewal, etc, quite the opposite of the rather grim image that I chose to see out last year.
Although... the astute observer will note the building waves[1] perhaps hinting at a threat rather than making one directly, except to the rocks in the foreground. This is much as my own year is shaping up, with some considerable threats on the livelihood front.
On the other hand there is also the prospect of new starts and opportunities. One may hope that the difference lies only in preparation and anticipation.
I'm refusing to se this as a new PAD (though it is) with 365 days' worth of shots to take (which it does). As far as I'm concerned, it's not so much New Year's Day as Thursday.

[1] Waves which are not quite as creamy as they might be, since I had the ND8 filter on but even stopped down to f/16 and at ISO 100 I didn't get slower than 6/10ths of a second.
