What, another shot of the park that borders Johnston's Bay?
Not exactly, look more closely. Yes, those wooden constructions between the trees. What are they?
They were interactive sculptures which were only in the park for a very short time and, unfortunately, were not particularly interactive during their time there.
The sculpture is described as follows:
"Arena Calcetto is a site specific and interactive installation created for the Australian Pavilion at the 13th Venice International Architecture Biennale. Making its debut in Sydney Australia, the work was displayed at Paddington Reservoir Gardens as a collateral installation for Art & About 2013 and Pirrama Park in Pyrmont. Showcasing six prefabricated timber towers, six custom perforated metal fussball tables and over 250 unique fussball players, Arena Calcetto was created by a diverse national and international project team of over 100 collaborators."
Yes, the sculptures have fussball tables built in. And the intention is that you be able to play fussball on those tables. In reality, the tables were undercover for their entire time there (as far as I knew) aside from the very first day; a day that I didn't have my camera with me. Consequently I didn't get any play time in. Or photography time in relation to that fussball tables themselves.
The sculptures were moved down to The Rocks area near Sydney Harbour before the 2014 soccer World Cup took place.
