Not at all the shot that I had originally taken for today but the opportunity presented itself so I went for it.
Star City Casino is being reconstructed. Ostensibly it's because it had been designed "the wrong way around". Yeah, right. The original design, which unfortunately I don't have a picture of as far as I know, sloped back quite subtly from street level via many stairways and terraces. I'm guessing that this was the quid pro quo for getting it there in the first place; "Look how little impact it has on the environment, how well it meshes, how subtle the effect of the gently rising building is!" Now that it's already there it's OK to abandon all of that and whack up a three story edifice straight along the roadway. I actually don't mind the look of the new design (though how well it will age is another point, and how glary the glass facades will be is yet a third), but I smell the foul odour of money trumping the civic environment (again) and am getting a touch tired of seeing it happen.
Nonetheless, I liked the frozen movement preserved in this image as three workers wrestle a chain from the overhead crane onto the back of a truck.
