Is this image a profound statement on the isolation of the individual who steps forth from the pack in modern society?

Or is it just that I need to put in more time and experimentation to make the image that I originally had in mind for this evening work, and have therefore resorted to a still life of a box of wax crayons that I'd forgotten that I had?

Edit, January 2024: I have no idea whether I still have these crayons almost 14 years later. They may well still be down in the garage somewhere.
