Several of us were sitting on the front porch shooting the bull in the late afternoon when a pleasure boat exploded south of us. Several of the crew, including our cook, ran down to the docks to get our 40-footer underway and to the scene. A private boat took the burn victims to shore where an ambulance picked them up for transport to the closest hospital. Our crew arrived on scene and put the fire out. The boat had been anchored and a buildup of gas fumes in the bilge exploded when the ignition was turned on.
This shot was taken from the lookout tower built on top of the station house, or about 4 or 5 floors up from the ground. Our crew and 40-footer were on the scene extinguishing the fire judging from the change in color of the smoke.
