Thank you to QMCS Carl Backman, USCG-Retired, for contributing this great image of Coast Guard Station Lake Worth Inlet. The view is looking north from the inlet and features the station boathouse on the far left side and the station house in the center. Both the boathouse and the station house have been preserved by the Palm Beach Maritime Museum organization. Senior Chief Backman was part of an eight man detachment from Woods Hole, Massachusetts in the First Coast Guard District, that served as President John F. Kennedy's Security Detail. During summer months they worked from a private home in Hyannis, Massachusetts.

He says: "When President Kennedy's family moved to West Palm Beach after Thanksgiving 1962 we moved with them. We returned to Base Woods Hole in the spring of 1963. There was three groups of people at the station: those permanently assigned to the station and were not involved in the Security Patrol, TAD personnel from the Seventh Coast Guard District who were trained by and worked for us during the President's stay. We were Temporary Additional Duty from CCGDONE and we ran the Security Patrol."

Senior Chief Backman retired from the U. S. Coast Guard in May 1979 after 24 years service.
