Viewing in 'Original' size recommended. This image duo, from successive exposures, taken from a 'vaporetto' or water taxi,
St Mark's Square, Venice, may be more famous, but the Grand Canal at the Rialto Bridge
is said to be the heart of Venice. The present bridge was finished in 1591.
It was more reliable than the many wooden bridges that had spanned the Grand Canal
in earlier times. Built on about 12,000 wooden pilings, they still support
the bridge more than 400 years later. Michelangelo and Palladio both made efforts
to get the design work, but a younger man - Antonio da Ponte - got the job.
is again from Agfa CN17 - a troublesome-for-scanners non orange dye colour negative.
However, I feel that the doublet, with its unusual colour and stains, suits
the timelessness of the Grand Canal and The Rialto Bridge.
