The Former Adversaries

Former adversaries reminisce as they survey a field of battle in Vietnam
17 years after the end of the war. After some talking on the hill, he led me
down (holding my hand) to where his thatched farmer's hut stood, to meet his wife,
and they made tea, and he showed me his 33rd NVA Regt. uniform, medals, and pictures.

Former enemies maybe. But we left each other as firm friends. A great day.

An unforgettable life experience. Too bad that the original experience took place.

Again, you've struck a nerve with this narrative and captured the insanity of war. I was in Russia recently working with some retired Soviet officers and came away with the same feeling you expressed. Wars should be fought by politicians in a pit somewhere ...

A wonderful experience for the both of you. How few actually
achieve what you have with this visit. Friends at last. V

Amazing. You had to have been an officer. As a draftee medic, I never knew where I was. It's great that you were able to do this. Good on ya, mate.

Such a powerful statement, Colin, and you've made it without saying a word. Bravo to you!
