Ogikon 35P - The Royal Camera Co. Japan c1958.
Ogikon 1:1,9 ƒ=45mm
Another gemstone in The Royal Camera Co., Japan display case.
I've been on the trail of the Ogikon branded Royal 35mm rangefinder
for about 6 years now, and I have finally obtained one. Yay!!
Many thanks, Jack and Family !!
Like the story of how I came to get the long sought after Hanimex C-35
from a kind lady in Sydney, this Ogikon has come to me from a similarly kind
family in Maine. And the 'provenance' of the camera is excellent. The camera
was purchased by a family friend in Japan in c1960, given to the wife's father,
subsequently given to this family, and stored carefully since then. As you can see,
the camera is in really good cosmetic condition, and all mechanicals seem excellent.
It is clear that only the top plate and the lens face plate have been changed by
The Royal Camera Co. to create this Ogikon model. The embossed RC in a Shield
can be seen on the leatherette left of the lens (not so easy in this image). The serial
numbers would reflect Royal camera bodies and Tomioka lens production.
Some images made with this beauty ! Also, more here
As I have never seen an Ogikon 35P derivative from Royal Camera Co. and I
do not see it in McKeown's or elsewhere, this may be one of the last of the
Ogikons before their 'branding' ceased. The exporter, Hiroyuki Ogino & Co,
of Nogemachi, Yokohama, ceased operations around 1960 as far as I know.
