The Kayak Dock

Mount Pleasant, South Carolina


After the rain stopped, I decided to make one more pinhole for
World Pinhole Day 2010 (although I cannot put it on the WPD site).
Instead of 7 minutes, this exposure was just 6 seconds ! I'll leave
it to you to figure how much brighter it was at 1pm. ;-)

(The rocks with oyster shells are about 12" 30cm from the camera.)

I just spent the morning/afternoon printing at the Rayko lab in SF. Right outside the
darkroom they were having a juried Pinhole exhibit:http://raykophoto.com/?page_id=37

Also there was a group of people making pinhole cameras from cans of all shapes being
led by the foremost pinhole artist on the planet Jo Babcock who is the summer artist in

LOL You're right, Don, about 'pointing'. I calculated the angle of view is 85 degrees for this focal length (nice and wide for a 4x5 - about a 20mm lens for a 35mm camera), so with a ballpoint, I marked that 85º angle on top of the box. I have then more of an educated 'point'. I always level the box with a very small builder's level, and a few leaves, twigs, business cards ... To be honest, this image turned out far better than I expected - always a nice happenstance, and one of the joys of lifting that big negative out of the fixing tray and turning on the light !! Yeah for film.
