Fading Away

December 15

Alabama

Many memories from days, weeks and months spent on this old
family farm. The sound of the rooster crowing just as the
sun broke the horizon. Listening to hear my grandfather's
foot steps as he entered into the kitchen to sit down in the
old metal chair to put on his boots. My heart racing knowing
that I had to rush down to catch him to go along to "help"
feed the cows and hogs before breakfast. The smell of the air
on the farm as we drove the truck to the barn and out to the
pastures. The fog hanging low over the moist pasture grass
and my feet growing wet somewhere just beneath...

Many years have passed since I activated those memories. Each
time I return, step out of my car and take that first deep
breath, they return in a flood bringing a smile to my face.
Memories remain while many things about the farm fade away.

You've rekindled memories of my youth when we visited my grandparents farm in Kansas. It's too late for me to go back, the farm was sold several years ago but those memories will never completely fade away. Thanks.

Some of the happiest days of your childhood is when your a grown up & you realise how good your life was & how simple things now make you the happiest !!
You have reminded me of my visits to my Uncle's dairy farm & how special that long yearly trip was !!
