Luminance

July 13

Home

I love spots of contrasting texture and color. This morning the dappled light and rain from the second wave from tropical depression Dennis set this hosta off.

lovely colors and contrast - the darker foliage in the background provides a nice canvas for this pretty hosta.

This is beautiful, and I am embarrassed to say I had no idea that Hostas had such lovely blooms.

Beautiful image. The Hosta positively glows. Really like the B & W too, it has an otherworld feeling about it.

Great composition in that the Hosta is off center. May be a small thing, but certainly more effective than had it been centered in frame. I'm with you, love the contrasting colors. And the greems at the base of this Hosts are quite eye catching, and provide great contrast to the rest of the image. I think both versions you've presented have their own merits and for me provide two different perspectives. In the color version, as I alluded to before, my eye is drawn to the luminescent greens. Whereas, I really like the tonal range in your B&W version. And the blooms draw equal attention, if not a bit more, but in an effective manner. All in all, quite well done on both.

Nice work, Scott - the wide-angle is great here. I like both versions, because the hosta (I learn something new every day!) really pops in both.

This photo is a flower arrangement unto itself. It has everything, contrast, light, balance, scale. Very nice and I am glad Dennis is still doing good things.
