Mt St Helens in Washington state erupted catastrophically on May 18, 1980. For the next few years the mountain continued to erupt but with less violence. This eruption happened in late summer, 1980. I cannot remember where I was...in a Cessna 185, maybe down around Woodburn or maybe Boring, Oregon. What's funny about this image is when I look at it I ignore the volcano going off and gaze at the farmland of the Willamette Valley and think about how much I love Oregon, where I was born.
