The earthquake of Oct. 17, 1989, was the first big one since 1906. It did a lot of damage, especially to the Marina District, where a lot of houses fell down and there were big fires. This newsboy, appropriately smeared in printer's ink, sells the extra edition put out by the Examiner. I carefully enclosed a copy of this paper in a zip lock bag and stuck it up into the overhead crawl space of my apartment. I'm sure it's still there. Eventually somebody will find it, a gift from the past. I wonder, did this kid become a journalist? He's already off to a good start.
