The US was cooking up the Vance-Owen Plan, which proved to be a disaster. Vance, on the left, met with Tudjman at Tito's old palace in Salate, which I think was then sort of a ceremonial residence for events like this. I don't recall how I found out about the press conference, but only three reporters showed up. I have no idea what Vance said, I didn't listen. So much for witnessing history.
