Wrong way race

Delta Park, Portland

If cyclists go the same direction on a closed course every week pretty soon the giant cosmic clock gets would up too tight from the energy. But reversing the race and going the opposite direction releases cosmic tension. Also, the riders don't end up with a giant right leg and an atrophied left leg.

Mark B., I agree the R&E jersey is 1982-1983. Is that Mike Kirk?

Wow! I'd say 1982. I'm leading the pack on my Peugeot frame I got for my birthday in 1981! If it was 1983, Tim, Raindance Velo had a whole distribution of red Specialized bikes from Bike Gallery.

I believe that is Ted Etter in the last Raindance Jersey in the field.

It's 1983- I look like I am fighting for breath or yelling at someone--so goofy!-I was sponsored by The Bike Gallery on the white Trek 950 w/Dura Ace.
Many Kisslers team members I see, Paul Robinson, David Auker, Jeff McKillup. That is Rick Kercheski on the front in the white jersey. I recognized Bill Hawley, Ken Allen, Robert Burney, Dan Houghton, Jerry Powell, great racing.

I'm in the white ProTec helmet with red and yellow stripes and the BBC green and white jersey right behind Burney. I think that is Glenn Sanders looking around my shoulder, and maybe Paul Robinson with the yellow Skid Lid to his left.

1982 - I'm in silver/grey and black Centurion jersey on the left side of the picture. Only year I rode for that team.

I think it is 1980 and is the A race. Tim Rutledge is the BBC rider near the font and David Auker is the rider in the BBC jersy near the center (Bill Hawley is behind him). I am the rider sitting up two riders behind David. Jerry Powell owned Cycle Craft in Portland, and I am wearing that jersey. John Beckman is the rider near the back left wearing the grey jersey (raising his head) and Brancale helmet with Jerry Powell behind and to the right.

I don't see myself in this group, looks like the "B". I raced in the "C" I think. Pretty sure this wrong way race is the only one where my group did not get caught, so I had some kind of chance in the sprint. I ended up with a 4th or something. This meant at the end of the season I had enough points to be I think 13th overall! I was not a sprinter at all and this race was super hard core competition.

Has to be '80 or '81 at the earliest. The third guy back on the right (riders' left) is wearing an R+E jersey. That was my team. I know that jersey didn't exist in the '70s. I wanna say 1981 but maybe '80?

Look at all the Skid Lids!
