been like this for most of the day,
it's not mist and it's not fog, just a sort of haze!
(i'm sure someone will tell me its proper name...)

Are as you are quite correct is mainly affects the east coast, it is a very thick fog, with visibitly reduced to a few yards.
I think what we have here his scotch mist!

It's called haar.
Really just another word for fog, but mostly used in Scotland, particularly in the east, and where it rolls in from the sea. I'm sure there are better definitions floating around out there.

It must be mist; smoke would make a haze, dust would make a haze. Water makes fog or mist.
