Daily Bute


The Isle of Bute is found in Scotland's Firth of Clyde,
The Island is 15 miles long by 4/5 miles wide and only 2 hours from Glasgow.
The scenery varies from moorland in the north to gentle woodland in the south around Kingarth.
You can even sunbathe in the quiet and unspoilt Ettrick or Scalpsie Bay while watching the clouds roll over Arran's Goat Fell.

I started Daily Bute on 29th March 2004 and have posted a different photo of Bute everyday since.

LUV the pic. of the `Stripey dingy`,this boat also features on a book cover,...........Her name is `FECKIN HULL`, and she,s mine!!! Lol

It seems so beautiful! I always liked England and Scotland.
I have been in Scotland but not in the isle of Bute. Maybe in one moment.

Zak, your pics of Bute are superb. I used to go there as a kid twice a year between 1981-1986 and haven't been there since (shame on me). Bute is a beautiful island and I have so many fond memories of Scalpsie Bay, the cream meringues at Ettrick Bay cafe, the lovely walks and Zavaroni's fish & chips. If the sun's shining you can't beat Bute and your pics bring back all the memories. I intend on going back this year or next as it's one of those places I have to revisit. Keep up the excellent work.

zak , your site is terrific , i come over too bute as often as i can to go walking and to take photos. any chance of meeting up one day to go on a shoot?, your photos of 23may of the relaunch of the aeoulus, the following night i was at troon taking photos and one of the boats tied up was the same aeolus looking great with its new paint job.

im moving back to bute soon and bringing my bf with me i even managed to show him where we would be living( via your photos) so he can get his bearings before we move across.my kids are excited about moving back home.thanks for the photos great to know the island is still beautiful and going through redevelopment.

My husband Alistair Macgregor was born and raised on Bute His dad had a newsagent shop at 60 HIgh Street We love the island and try to get there every year for a short visit with Step mom Its a lovely place Enjoy the photos Keep up the good work

Next time you are out taking snaps can you take one of Eastlands farm on Canada hill please,we used to stay there in the seventies when the cottage was divided into two.I believe it has been converted and renovated now? Cheers Alan

Grew up on Bute and hae been living in the Snowy Mountains, NSW, Australia for a few years now. The sight is fantastic and makes me smile when I feel a bit homesick! Keep up the good work!

Brilliant. Since finding this website I'm hooked! Lived in Rothesay all my life and just moved to New Zealand. Love looking back at photo's and catching the Daily Bute pictures. Some stunning photo's and keeping the memories alive - keep up the good work Zak.

re the guest whos husband used to live at barefield- i also have family who used to live at barefield. two weeks ago i was helping do the silage in the fields at barefield and the steading and house is in a bit of a state

i have not been to bute for 10 years but now my family have flown the nest and i have looked at your pics. i have booked caravan on site for 30th july for week all excited about coming back. always loved bute, am looking forward to my hols.

My Great Grandparents lived at 5 Mansfield place. My American grandma visited once a year and took Gran home to her house. Dr. Howie made many of visits to house for Great Gran and for me as a wee girl. His recommended hot tooties always did the trick.

not a memnber on pbase, but love the photos; bring back many memories of my childhood holidays on bute. My uncle and aunt still live on the island at albany terrace , and my grandafather was the GP on the island for 40 years and his surgery was at Battery place.
We come over once a year to see my aunt and uncle and have a small family reunion, Nice to see the old favourites are stll there like the Kettledrun Cafe. but I miss the red crane that used to be situated on the samll pier for taking coal off the boats. I use to fish regularly off the pier before it was removed for cod and mackerel with cockles harvested at Port Bannatyne at low tide.Thanks for the graet photos.
