15th January

The controversial fence! (is that really needed!?)

Rainy day, I wasn't going to bother going out but noticed the tide was high
so went down to the harbour to see if it had sank, it hadn't... ;-)

I am reconsidering another visit to Bute, it's dreadful and will make tourists feel unwelcome, it does, me. Are we going to have to be strip searched too? An abomination, well done council (if you're behind this) Well said "the guest" comment re 9/11, if I didn't know better I'd think MY council had taken over Bute. I think a complaining phone call to the tourist office is about due.

Like most people i have been coming to rothesay since i was a kid back in the late 60s the pier was the place to be waching the steamers coming and going the old tannoy system playing the tunes the pub the shops ect ect .i learned to fish from that pier all those years ago and people wonder why nobody comes back to rothesay anymore the bloody island it getting carved up memories gone forever thats why. Who wants to walk down the pier staring it that crap sorry sadley not me anymore

What a load of xollob this is! Don't suits understand the quality of life?
bikeboy16-Jan-2009 19:54
oh how would us simple folk be able tae breathe and walk and survive without all the shitheads at lochgilphead telling us what we need. Is that a 13mm bolt tying it to the pier mmmmmmm i feel a night excersise to loosen a bolt or three. This debacle really has had me scratchin ma heid tae figure oot why we need all the shite they have given us down on the pier. They may be able tae hide behind h&s but one day they will be held accountable hopefully.rant over off tae get ma tea

For 52 years I have been going down the pier watching various ferries and cruise steamers come and go and have never seen anyone hurt. This is absolute nonsense, we will have search lights on the top of the posts next. It will be interesting to see if the new Largs pier gets the same treatment

Crikey, obviously folk don't like that fence... but that's how the world is going - we are not capable of looking after ourselves you know, Big Brother, has to fence us in for our own safety! ;o)
The Captain 16-Jan-2009 09:57
This is what happens when you send a jumped up prat on a safety awareness course

This is just a heartbreaking sight. The same people would probably see a moustache and glasses drawn on the Mona Lisa as an improvement

Piece of shit!!! how to encourage tourists eh no wonder we are slowly closing all our doors
Guest 16-Jan-2009 02:05
Looks like shit too I wonder who will be the first wein to hurt them selves trying to climb it

What a sight! Always thought the new passenger walkway completely unnecessary anyway. i rather liked sharing 'gangway' with vehicles, it was quicker!
Hugh 15-Jan-2009 23:51
Ve have vays of making you board this ferry!!!
Guest 15-Jan-2009 23:47
surely with the amount of former and current local constabulary (polis) workers who work down there the safety of the island is in good hands????????
charlie t 15-Jan-2009 22:53
Passports/id cards next, all this just to stop the kids fishing!!
wee bute man 15-Jan-2009 22:25
[voice over the tannoy] "Welcome to the HMP YOI Rothesay".
Guest 15-Jan-2009 22:08
Stops people fishing as well SO LESS WORK FOR THE HARBOUR WORKERS AND less fish for john juna.
Mr Audi15-Jan-2009 21:59
Bonkers. Can't Bute folk and visitors alike be trusted on the pier? Arguably the passenger walkway thingy hasn't added the slightest bit of visual appeal to the pier and the new fence just about put's the icing on the cake. New visitors.. first impressions.. not good :-/

the guest 15-Jan-2009 21:35

That should keep the terrorists at bay thank god for that, (sarcasm is wasted in written form). Bloody waste of time money all because some a***h*** in an office says so
Helen 15-Jan-2009 20:13
This really is a nonsense, isn't it?
