This is one of the most enduring views of London. Recently the London Eye has taken over as a symbol
for the great city but to me this view across the Thames is Truly London. This is a World Heritage
Site. As always the London weather looms over the the building.
The present Houses of Parliament were built by the architect Sir Charles Barry (1795-1860) and his
assistant Augustus Welby Pugin (1812-52). The tallest tower is the Victoria Tower, and atop it is
flown the Royal Standard (if the sovereign is present in the palace) or the Union Flag.
