I now own this car. I bought it on May 10, 2022.
I am interested to learn the history of this car, who did the restoration, was it in any shows?

Ok, major differences...the dashes are different. the front turn signals look different and the easiest to hide difference is if you look at the upper grill guard where the air inlets are the 1949 mercury has small rectangular openings whereas the 1950 has much bigger openings. almost twice as big for more air flow to the cabin.

The easy tell from the front is that the small round turn signal is mounted right on the body for 1949 and the 1950 has the big chrome rectangle behind it. If it is customized then it is almost impossible to tell the two apart.
From a couple links I see on the 'net you are correct on this. I do not know all the differences between the 49 and 50 but I do know that the '49 had a split rear window. Most owners of '49's replace the rear window with a full or 50 style window.

While the 49 and 50 Mercs are similar, the Rebel Merc was a 1949.

1950 Mercury Coupe. The famous "James Dean" Mercury featured in the movie "Rebel Without A Cause". This Mercury is the favorite of customizers then and now. Probably the best known, most loved Mercury of all time.
