I stumbled upon five of these second year birds at the Great River Road State Park in Rosedale Mississippi. When the Mississippi River is low it creates large deep pools of water that attract shorebirds as well as large wading birds. I spooked four of this one's buddies to a farther pool. I was lucky this one stayed close enough for some decent photos. Also posing for this shot were a Great and a Snowy Egret.
