There were black units in the Civil War, composed primarily of free men from the north. The first and most famous was the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, the subject of the film "Glory". I'm not sure if these reenactors are specifically the 54th or not.

Wonderful capture of part of this remarkable event , we have nothing like this in Australia..I guess we never fought a civil war...V
