Earthship near Taos
Earthships are houses built to have minimal impact on the environment. Recycled or otherwise discarded materials like old tires, cans and bottles are incorporated into the construction. Those dark spots in the wall are the bottoms of glass bottles. They are earth sheltered, designed for passive solar gain, have solar panels and wind turbines, harvest water from large roofs, etc. There is a whole community of them near Taos. This is, or was their visitor center.
