Clovis, NM

There are three theaters in Clovis, the Mesa, the Lyceum and the State Theater. The Lyceum Theater, located at 411 Main street was built in 1919-1920 by Eugene F. Hardwick, and it was operated by him until 1969. from the first time it opened it served as a movie theater and for live performances. It was then purchased by the Commonwealth Theater Group and ran until 1974 when it closed. It was purchased in 1982 by the Lyceum Theater Group and completely restored. it now operates as a playhouse. I was fortunate enough to be given access to the theater by a barber operating a shop next door that adjoined the theater. I have no info on the other two theaters.
