Pocatello, Idaho, at Home in the Mountains

I've been asked if one could get better potatoes here in potato country than elsewhere. According to my experience, no, because potatoes are easy to transport. However, when it comes to other fresh vegetables, we do get much better of these than in more crowded Eastern U.S. states, again according to my own experience. Much of our fresh produce is from the states of Washington and Oregon, our neighbors to the West. We can also get wild salmon easily here (during the right time of the year), even non-local wild salmon, whereas my friend in the San Francisco area claimed that wild salmon is difficult to get there.

We also get produce from California and other parts of the world. There are also Idaho-grown greens and sweet fruits, but our climate is more suited to growing potatoes. We also have juniper berries that grow wild, of course, good for making Swedish dishes, and other wild edible plants.

The salad dressing also came from one of those two neighboring states, Washington or Oregon.
