Coons come to our feeder at night here at home in the wild mountains of Pocatello. This one, obviously a nursing Mom, needs a lot of nuts to provide nourishment for her babies.
To photograph her, I approached her carefully and started photographing her from far away, getting her used to the concept of the external flash, set in red-eye mode, going off on her. This picture was taken after her eyes had been flashed many times, and still I got the flashy-eye effect. To not get that, I probably would have had to use a very long flash handle, not just the hot shoe as I did.
